HELENA HUFNAGEL

 

attended the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF). Her directorial debut, the documentary short Erntefaktor Null, was screened at more than 50 festivals worldwide, including as the opening film of Dok.Fest Forum Munich in 2012, and was nominated for the German Short Film Award.

In 2014, she realized a frozen-in-time sequence in her short film Willa, based on the short story by Stephen King. The film was screened at 45 festivals worldwide, including the Oscar-qualifying Palm Springs International ShortFest, among others.

She co-wrote, co-produced, and directed her feature film debut Einmal bitte alles (“Pretty Far from Okay”), which earned her the Bavarian Film Award – VGF Newcomer Producer Award, along with several additional honors for directing.

In 2019, she directed the Tatort episode Die harte Kern, which achieved outstanding viewership ratings.

Her third feature film, Generation Beziehungsunfähig (“Commitment Phobia”), which she co-wrote and directed, celebrated its world premiere at Filmfest Munich and ranked among the 12 most successful German theatrical releases of 2021.

Her first international feature film, Silber und das Buch der Träume, produced by Constantin Film for Amazon Studios, premiered at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in 2023 and was nominated for the German Television Award 2024. The film was shot in Dublin and London.

She is currently in post-production on her next feature film.
